Finding grace in the ordinary

August 15, 2026·Samantha Duane

I used to think healing would arrive in a dramatic moment. A breakthrough in therapy. A conversation that changed everything. A morning when I woke up and just... felt better.

But that's not how it happened for me. Healing arrived in the ordinary.

It arrived in the way the light came through my kitchen window on a Tuesday morning. In the smell of coffee. In the particular quiet of early morning before the world woke up.

It arrived in small acts of care — making my bed, taking a walk, calling a friend. Not because these things fixed anything, but because they were evidence that I was still here. Still trying. Still choosing to show up for my own life.

There's a kind of grace in the ordinary that I think we miss when we're waiting for the big moments. The ordinary is where most of life happens. And if healing is going to happen, it's going to happen there too.

So today, I'm paying attention to the ordinary. The light through the window. The warmth of the mug in my hands. The fact that I'm here, and I'm trying, and that's enough.
